2001 Toyota Tundra Knocking While Cold Start
I just wouldnt worry about it.
2001 toyota tundra knocking while cold start. It sort of stumbles and coughs and you think it is about to fire up but doesnt. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence. Its a distinct knock that varies with engine speed goes away after about 5-10 minutes of warm-up.
I have owned my 2002 Taco for almost 4 years and have just over 91k on the 3RZ. From what I hear its a pretty common issue. Once it warms up it goes away usually after 10 min or so.

The customer complaint is that the engine intermittently stalls or di. One is varying degrees of piston slap during a cold-start worse in very cold weather. Over the years the engine knocking at cold start up is more consistent on an everyday basis even in the summer.
While driving less than 5 mph there was an abnormal noise heard on the front driver side of the vehicle. I noticed this noise around 5 days ago on a foggy and humid morning. It usually has to be below 40 F for the noise to happen.
